Where to find publishing jobs

The Bookseller

The Bookseller is the main trade press for publishing in the UK. It also has a searchable database of publishing jobs, you can upload your CV – and register to have the latest jobs emailed to you every Friday morning.

The Guardian

The Guardian newspaper also lists publishing jobs in its jobs database.

Publishing Scotland

Looking for a publishing job in Scotland? The trade body Publishing Scotland has a regularly updated list of jobs and opportunities.

Recruitment agencies

There are specialist recruitment agencies in the publishing industry. Keep an eye on their sites for their latest publishing jobs. Examples in the UK are Inspired Selection, Atwood Tate and Redwood Recruitment.

Publisher websites

If there’s a specific publisher you’d like to work for, most publishers have their own online recruitment websites or web pages. Such as Hachette and Penguin Random House. Keep an eye on the websites of published you’re interested in working for. And, while you’re at it, use their websites to familiarize yourself with their publishing programmes!

Job sites

Jobs sites such as indeed are popular worldwide.

Social Media

LinkedIn is a great tool for your publishing job search. Keep your profile current, and relevant to the job you are looking for. Make connections and follow companies you’d like to work for. Join relevant groups – many include job postings. We also have a Publishing Talk LinkedIn group. Here are 10 ways to use LinkedIn to find a publishing job.

Twitter is a great place to keep an eye on the latest publishing jobs – but there are quite a lot of different sources to keep up with. We have a publishing jobs feed on Twitter at @publishingjobs – but it’s not currently active. If you’re in the UK, start with the The Bookseller’s jobs feed at @JobsinBooks. It’s also worth following some of the specialist agencies, such as Inspired Selection (@Inspiredjobs), Atwood Tate (@AtwoodTate) and Redwood Recruitment (@RedwoodJobs).
